Celebrating the Legacy of UNT Jazz Join us in celebrating 75 years of Jazz at UNT. 20212016 Alan baylock begins as Director of the One O’Clock Band in Fall 2016. Jay Saunders, a 2016 retiree, was director of the One and Two O’Clock Lab Bands. Saunders also taufht trumpet lessons to Jazz Studies majors and was a lecturer. He was a One O’Clock Lab Band member from 1965-1968.2007 Steve Wiest founded he U-Tubes Jazz Trombone Ensemble in 2007.1997 The UNT College of Music Division of Jazz Studies celebrated fifty years of jazz and jazz education. Under the direction of Leon Breeden, the North Texas Lab Bands received almost 50 national awards for group and individual performance. Upon retirement, Fessor Floyd Graham was named the first emeritus professor at North Texas. 1967 In 1958, the Fessor Graham Award was established as an annual award for outstanding teaching. 1950 1950 Various names of the 1950 One O’Clock Lab Band Members 1948 Various names of the 1948 Lab Band Members 1946 The first Lab Band began with Charles Meeks as director.
